Intercom alternative

An Intercom alternative for a team of one.

Intercom earns its reputation — messenger, in-app product tours, workflows, omnichannel. It also starts at $29 per seat per month with no free tier, and Fin AI adds $0.99 per resolution on top. The Night Reception is the other end of the market: one owner, one front desk, no per-seat cost.

Free forever for our first 25 signups — chat widget and morning briefings. No credit card.

Side by side

Intercom vs The Night Reception

If you have a support team and a product to onboard, Intercom is a different class of tool. If you're the whole team, you're buying seats nobody sits in.

IntercomThe Night Reception
Pricing model Per seat, and no free tier — a 14-day trial instead. Essential $29/seat/mo; Advanced ≈ $85–99; Expert ≈ $132–139 (annual). Fin AI is $0.99 per resolution on top of seats; Copilot is $29/seat/mo. Free forever for the first 25 signups. No per-seat pricing, no per-resolution fees.
Team size fit Built for support and product teams; the bill scales with the number of people who need a seat. Built for a sole owner-operator. One front desk, no seats to buy.
After-hours coverage Covered by staff, or by Fin at $0.99 per resolution on top of seat costs. Answers after hours with nobody on the desk.
Booking Messenger, in-app product tours, and workflows for your team; a team member handles the next step. Visitors can request an appointment straight from the chat, using the booking link you give us.
Morning briefing — A short email briefing of every conversation, in your inbox.
Setup complexity Install the messenger, then configure your workspace, segments, and workflows. One snippet and your approved facts. We walk you through it.

Intercom pricing and features checked on intercom.com, 2026-09-26. A dash means the feature wasn't in that vendor's listed core product when we checked — an add-on or integration may still exist. Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on 2026-09-10; if you're outside the Salesforce ecosystem, treat roadmap and pricing as uncertain. Check the vendor's current page before you decide.

Honest fit

Who should switch — and who shouldn't

Switch to The Night Reception if…

  • You're a one-person business. You don't have seats to fill, so per-seat pricing is pure overhead.
  • You don't sell software. In-app product tours and usage-based messaging have nothing to do on a service site.
  • You want a fixed cost, not a variable one. No seat count, no per-resolution line item that grows with your traffic.
  • You want the lead captured, not scored. A booking request and a morning briefing beat a workflow you have to configure and maintain.

Stay on Intercom if…

  • You need in-app product tours. Onboarding users inside a software product is Intercom's core strength, and The Night Reception doesn't do it.
  • You run a support team. If several people share an inbox and run support together, Intercom's messenger and workflows are built for that.
  • You're already in the Salesforce ecosystem. With the Fin acquisition, a Salesforce-aligned shop may get more from staying than from switching.
  • You have the budget and want omnichannel depth. Messenger, email, and product messaging in one platform is worth real money to some teams.

How to switch

From Intercom to a front desk, in about 10 minutes

  1. See it with your website. Enter your website and try the front desk for yourself. Start here.
  2. Send us your approved facts and booking link. Services, hours, the questions visitors actually ask, and the link you use for appointments. The front desk answers only from these.
  3. Paste one snippet on your site. Add the JavaScript snippet we send you just before the closing </body> tag. On Wix that's Settings > Custom Code; on WordPress it goes in your theme or a header/footer plugin. We walk you through it.
  4. Remove the Intercom snippet when you're ready. If you've been paying per seat, cancel on their side after your trial week. Nothing to export from our end — it's one line of code.

Questions

Intercom alternative FAQ

Does Intercom have a free plan?

No. Intercom runs a 14-day trial instead. Essential is $29/seat/mo, Advanced ≈ $85–99, and Expert ≈ $132–139 (annual). We checked intercom.com on 2026-09-26.

How does Fin AI change the bill?

Fin is $0.99 per resolution on top of what you pay for seats — 500 resolutions a month is about $495 in Fin fees alone. Copilot, the assistant for your agents, is $29/seat/mo.

What's the Salesforce acquisition about?

Salesforce completed its acquisition of Fin on 2026-09-10. If your business isn't in the Salesforce ecosystem, that leaves some question marks over future roadmap and pricing. It's worth factoring in before you commit.

Can The Night Reception do in-app product tours?

No. It's a website front desk — it answers questions, shares your booking link, and briefs you. In-app onboarding stays on Intercom's side of the fence.

What does the free tier include?

The chat widget on your site and the morning briefings. It's free forever for the first 25 signups. No credit card, no account to create.

One owner, one front desk, no seats.

If you're the whole team, you don't need a per-seat platform. Give your site a front desk that answers, books, and briefs you. See it with your website first — no signup, nothing installed.
